Dave Holladay's experience comes from practicing what he preaches. He has worked for over 30 years in several transport-related jobs, including 7 years with British Rail, largely in Scotland with the Chief Mechanical & Electrical Engineers, but also comprising a secondment to British Railways Board for a Life Cost Database study.

He then spent 10 years with Sustrans building many of the current Scottish cycle routes with government scheme labour, contractors, and volunteers. He has since sought to develop the concept of Travel Demand Management, featuring innovative packages and intermodal links (like the Fringe Bus Pass, now in its 4th year); advising Strathclyde Passenger Transport on a model cycle locker rental agreement, now in use; developing "bike on bus" systems; and drafting a comprehensive datasheet on cycle parking provision.

With Custom Folder, he has been contributing to the development of alternatives to cars, such as folding bikes and boats which can be taken on public transport and which can carry significant volumes and weights.
