Transform Scotland response to Treasury ditching fuel duty increase

Paul Tetlaw, Chair of sustainable transport campaign group Transform Scotland, said:

"The recent increases in the price of fuel have produced significant changes in motorists' behaviour, most of which are to be welcomed. We have seen increased use of public transport and more poeple walking and cycling. This has led to a greater of local shops as opposed to out of town locations and less car dependancy which will benefit the health of the nation. All of these behavioural changes are in line with Government aspirations and indeed are better for society as a whole.

"Instead of pleading for yet lower petrol prices we should be recognising the need to wean ourselves off our oil addiction and implementing future transport systems that are not dependent on this scarce and rapidly depleting resource."
