HOLYROOD'S INCONVENIENT TRUTH:
A guide to the Scottish elections 2007
TRANSform Scotland [1] has today (Monday 30th
April 2007) released its guide to transport, climate change and the Scottish
elections. 'Holyrood's Inconvenient Truth' [2] is a tongue-in-cheek animation
looking at what the politicians are saying - or more importantly, not
saying - about how they will tackle climate change.

Colin Howden, Director of TRANSform Scotland
said:
"We've heard so much rhetoric from the mainstream parties about
commitments to tackle climate change without any coherent policies on
transport. So we've tried to make it really simple for them by boiling
it down to four key points.
"The animation was developed to reinforce the link between climate
change and transport which seems to have escaped the attention of most
of the politicians. Contrary to most political thought, reducing carbon
emissions cannot be achieved by a major road-building programme and subsidies
for airlines.
"Transport is the fastest growing contributor to climate change.
The inability or unwillingness by politicians to take action means that
we cannot hope to achieve the reduction in carbon emissions that are required.
"We need to see a shift away from subsidies of road and air travel,
to sustainable investment into public transport, walking and cycling."
