STRATHCLYDE TRANSPORT PLANS FALL WELL SHORT OF THE MARK:
SPT's Regional Transport Strategy
TRANSform Scotland have today (Tuesday 27th February)
published their response to Strathclyde Partnership for Transport's strategy
for the West of Scotland.
Colin Howden, Director of TRANSform Scotland,
said:
"SPT fails to set out a convincing programme for reducing climate
change emissions from the region. The strategy transparently takes the
attitude that 'someone else can deal with climate change'.
"The strategy also lacks any ambition in tackling road traffic growth.
Last month saw Greater Manchester, an area comparable to Greater Glasgow
in many ways, propose road pricing as a means to significantly improve
public transport and reduce road traffic levels. We see none of this ambition
in SPT's proposed regional transport strategy, and can only conclude that
it is a profoundly disappointing document."
