Queen's Speech: Government's fine words on transport not backed up by action

Following the absence of legislation on transport policy in this afternoon's Queen's Speech, TRANSform Scotland today criticised the lack of action from the Government in putting John Prescott's sustainable transport plans into action.

Colin Howden, Campaign Manager of TRANSform Scotland, commented:
"The Transport White Papers launched by John Prescott in the summer were supported by everyone from environmentalists to road-builders so it's disappointing that the Government is not prepared to turn its fine words into legislation during this Parliamentary session."

Colin Howden continued:
"At the very least we had expected to see legislation on a Strategic Rail Authority. That the Government has got cold feet over this relatively uncontroversial, and certainly popular, proposal doesn't bode well for an early resolution to our transport problems."
